New Testament

Matthew 5:16 (amp), 16. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 9: 35-38 (amp), 35. Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages [in Galilee], teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news (gospel) of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness [His words and His works reflecting His Messiahship]. 36. When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion and pity for them, because they were dispirited and distressed, like sheep without a shepherd. 37. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is [indeed] plentiful, but the workers are few. 38. So pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”

Matthew 11: 25-30 (amp), 25. At that time Jesus said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth [I openly and joyfully acknowledge Your great wisdom], that You have hidden these things [these spiritual truths] from the wise and intelligent and revealed them to infants [to new believers, to those seeking God’s will and purpose]. 26. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. 27. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Son except the Father; and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son [deliberately] wills to reveal Him. 28. “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. 29. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me[following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST (renewal, blessed quiet) FOR YOUR SOULS. 30. For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.”

Mark 10:45 (amp), 45. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Luke 1:37 (amp), 37. For with God nothing [is or ever] shall be impossible.”

Luke 10:1-12 (amp), 1. Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them out ahead of Him, two by two, into every city and place where He was about to go. 2. He was saying to them, “The harvest is abundant [for there are many who need to hear the good news about salvation], but the workers [those available to proclaim the message of salvation] are few. Therefore, [prayerfully] ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.

The First thing God did when He sent out the 70 was to have them pray for more workers and then He told them what to do.

3. Go your way; listen carefully: I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4. Do not carry a money belt, a provision bag, or [extra] sandals; and do not greet anyone along the way [who would delay you]. 5. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace [that is, a blessing of well-being and prosperity, the favor of God] to this house.’ 6. And if anyone of peace is there [someone who is sweet-spirited and hospitable], your [blessing of] peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. 7. Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not move from house to house. 8. Whenever you go into a city and they welcome you, eat what is set before you; 9. and heal those in it who are sick[authenticating your message], and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10. But whatever city you enter and they do not welcome you, go out into its streets and say, 11. ‘Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you [breaking all ties]; yet understand this, that the kingdom of God has come near[and you rejected it].’ 12. I tell you, it will be more bearable in that day[of judgment] for Sodom than for that city.

John 6: 26-29 (amp), 26. Jesus answered, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, you have been searching for Me, not because you saw the signs (attesting miracles), but because you ate the loaves and were filled. 27. Do not work for food that perishes, but for food that endures [and leads] to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you; for God the Father has authorized Him and put His seal on Him.” 28. Then they asked Him, “What are we to do, so that we may habitually be doing the works of God?” 29. Jesus answered, “This is the work of God: that you believe [adhere to, trust in, rely on, and have faith] in the One whom He has sent.”

In simple words, God has called us to live His example and say His words.

Acts 20: 33-35 (amp), 33. I had no desire for anyone’s silver or gold or [expensive] clothes. 34. You know personally that these hands ministered to my own needs [working in manual labor] and to [those of] the people who were with me. 35. In everything I showed you [by example] that by working hard in this way you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed [and brings greater joy] to give than to receive.’”

Romans 12: 9-13 (amp), 9. Love is to be sincere and active [the real thing—without guile and hypocrisy]. Hate what is evil [detest all ungodliness, do not tolerate wickedness]; hold on tightly to what is good. 10. Be devoted to one another with [authentic] brotherly affection [as members of one family], give preference to one another in honor; 11. never lagging behind in diligence; aglow in the Spirit, enthusiastically serving the Lord; 12. constantly rejoicing in hope [because of our confidence in Christ], steadfast and patient in distress, devoted to prayer [continually seeking wisdom, guidance, and strength], 13. contributing to the needs of God’s people, pursuing [the practice of] hospitality.

1 Corinthians 3: 3-15 (amp), 3. You are still worldly [controlled by ordinary impulses, the sinful capacity]. For as long as there is jealousy and strife and discord among you, are you not unspiritual, and are you not walking like ordinary men [unchanged by faith]? 4. For when one of you says, “I am [a disciple] of Paul,” and another, “I am [a disciple] of Apollos,” are you not [proving yourselves unchanged, just] ordinary people? 5. What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Just servants through whom you believed [in Christ], even as the Lord appointed to each his task. 6. I planted, Apollos watered, but God [all the while] was causing the growth. 7. So neither is the one who plants nor the one who waters anything, but [only] God who causes the growth. 8. He who plants and he who waters are one [in importance and esteem, working toward the same purpose]; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9. For we are God’s fellow workers [His servants working together]; you are God’s cultivated field [His garden, His vineyard], God’s building. 10. According to the [remarkable] grace of God which was given to me [to prepare me for my task], like a skillful master builder I laid a foundation, and now another is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds on it, 11. for no one can lay a foundation other than the one which is [already] laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12. But if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13. each one’s work will be clearly shown [for what it is]; for the day [of judgment] will disclose it, because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality and character and worth of each person’s work. 14. If any person’s work which he has built [on this foundation, that is, any outcome of his effort] remains [and survives this test], he will receive a reward. 15. But if any person’s work is burned up [by the test], he will suffer the loss [of his reward]; yet he himself will be saved, but only as [one who has barely escaped] through fire.

1 Corinthians 9: 24-27 (amp), 24. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run [their very best to win], but only one receives the prize? Run [your race] in such a way that you may seize the prize and make it yours! 25. Now every athlete who [goes into training and] competes in the games is disciplined and exercises self-control in all things. They do it to win a [b]crown that withers, but we [do it to receive] an imperishable [crown that cannot wither]. 26. Therefore I do not run without a definite goal; I do not flail around like one beating the air [just shadow boxing]. 27. But [like a boxer] I strictly discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached [the gospel] to others, I myself will not somehow be disqualified [as unfit for service].

1 Corinthians 10:31 (amp), 31. So then, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of [our great] God.

1 Corinthians 15:58 (amp), 58. For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].

Ephesians 5:15-17 (amp), 15. Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people], 16. making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil. 17. Therefore do not be foolish and thoughtless, but understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is.

Ephesians 6:5-9 (amp), 5. Slaves, be obedient to those who are your earthly masters, with respect for authority, and with a sincere heart [seeking to please them], as [service] to Christ— 6. not in the way of eye-service [working only when someone is watching you and only] to please men, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart; 7. rendering service with goodwill, as to the Lord, and not [only] to men, 8. knowing that whatever good thing each one does, he will receive this back from the Lord, whether [he is] slave or free. 9. You masters, do the same [showing goodwill] toward them, and give up threatening and abusive words, knowing that [He who is] both their true Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with Him [regardless of one’s earthly status].

Philippians 2:13-15 (amp), 13. For it is [not your strength, but it is] [a]God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure. 14. Do everything without murmuring or questioning [the providence of God], 15. so that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish in the midst of a [morally] crooked and [spiritually] perverted generation, among whom you are seen as bright lights [beacons shining out clearly] in the world [of darkness],

Philippians 4:13 (amp), 13. I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]

Colossians 3:17, 23-24 (amp), 17. Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him. 23. Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, 24. knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 (amp), 11. and to make it your ambition to live quietly and peacefully, and to mind your own affairs and work with your hands, just as we directed you, 12. so that you will behave properly toward outsiders [exhibiting good character, personal integrity, and moral courage worthy of the respect of the outside world], and be dependent on no one and in need of nothing [be self-supporting].

1 Thessalonians 5: 12-15 (amp), 12. Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to appreciate those who diligently work among you [recognize, acknowledge, and respect your leaders], who are in charge over you in the Lord and who give you instruction, 13. and [we ask that you appreciate them and] hold them in the highest esteem in love because of their work [on your behalf]. Live in peace with one another. 14. We [earnestly] urge you, believers, admonish those who are out of line [the undisciplined, the unruly, the disorderly], encourage the timid [who lack spiritual courage], help the [spiritually] weak, be very patient with everyone [always controlling your temper]. 15. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek that which is good for one another and for all people.

2 Thessalonians 3: 10-12 (amp), 10. For even while we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. 11. Indeed, we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined and inappropriate life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies [meddling in other people’s business]. 12. Now such people we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work quietly and earn their own food and other necessities [supporting themselves instead of depending on the hospitality of others].

1 Timothy 5:8 (amp), 8. If anyone fails to provide for his own, and especially for those of his own family, he has denied the faith [by disregarding its precepts] and is worse than an unbeliever [who fulfills his obligation in these matters].

Father, I pray that you would forgive me of my sins.
